Dr. Mo smiling with leaves in background. Text: Hello I'm Dr. Monique Gonzalez clinical psychologist seeking to support others in mindfully flowing with the waves that come with our sacred messy humanity.

Honored to be in community with you.

I'm Dr. Monique Gonzalez (Dr. Mo more often these days) and my pronouns are she/her/ella. A couple years ago, I made a big leap. I moved from San Francisco, California to a tiny slow paced village in Spain. I live between mountain and sea, hang all my laundry outside to dry, buy my veggies from a local farm down the street, get my hands covered in clay at my village's tiny pottery studio, and walk to forage my own herbs. My adolescent city self would be laughing - who even are you? It has been very different, and very good for my well-being.

I am a licensed clinical psychologist, with doctoral education and training in mental health. I left my job as a therapist due to the impact of a disability, known as Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD). I am now passionate about elevating PMDD awareness and advocacy in the mental health profession.

The 'Great Pause' of career transition and creative reinvention was initially quite scary as f^@k and turned out to be incredibly liberating. I still maintain and channel my skillset in therapeutic care, interdisciplinary collaboration, community education, and organizational staff training. However, I have shifted to embracing an 'unconventional' approach. I facilitate community offerings that allow me to honor the pace, flow, cycle of my own body+mind+spirit. Plus, I get to connect meaningfully with more folks around the world and co-create nourishing, accessible spaces for support and education.

A few projects I've been working on:

🌱providing consultation to the International Association of Premenstrual Disorders
🌱hosting online courses and workshops to folks living with chronic illness
🌱writing as a way to connect and uplift PMD awareness
🌱teaching continuing education trainings to psychologists and therapists

You can learn more about my academic background by scrolling below.

Mindfulness, trauma responsive care, and cultural humility principles strongly guide my approach. I am bilingual-ish in English/Spanish, and am proud to come from a family of Latinx immigrants.

Much of what I share is focused on learning how to flow with the sacred messy of our humanity (I wrote a blog about this, if you're interested). I view creativity and authenticity as resistance to the paradigms that have had us all questioning our worth. I believe we are not meant to figure things out on this big floating rock all on our own. We need each other. For my fellow chronic illness and disabled folks, you are oh so seen here and I am sending you an extra big virtual compassionate ray of light.

A special project I am channeling - as of 2024 - is a novel! I am currently tapping into my writer's identity and conjuring up a fiction book. Stay tuned.

Thanks for bearing witness to my story. Sending you gratitude for taking time to be present. If you are not yet receiving my newsletters, please do sign up here and let's stay in touch.

Un abrazo virtual muy fuerte,
Dr. Mo

Hi. Me again. Here are some things I am learning to embrace unapologetically these days:

  • I am an intuitive soul. That's just as important as the academic accolades.
  • I am a Latinx cis woman still humbly stumbling, expanding, dismantling in the waters of part colonized, part colonizer.
  • I'm transforming, breaking open and falling more deeply into allignment with my spirit.
  • I stand for science and the wisdom of my abuelas.
  • I am a writer.
  • I believe in being actively on the path of anti-oppression and collective liberation. This is an anti-racist space. This also means divesting from a capitalist, grind hard, patriarchal, ableist system and moving towards a more spacious, restful, and communal way of being.
  • I give myself permission to FLOW.
